TICKLING THE IVORIES

Picture
Hello, my name is Mary Beach. I have enjoyed teaching piano for over 40 years, beginning during my high school years. Over time, I have had the privilege to work with many wonderful students aged 5 to 75 . I work to incorporate several different piano methods to fashion a lesson plan that is tailor-made to the individual student’s needs and goals. I believe that learning an instrument can be a challenge, and yet, it should be fun! My mission is to nurture a genuine love of music and help the student develop the skills & knowledge to enjoy it the rest of their lives, whether they decide to study another instrument, sing in choir or simply have a better appreciation for the music of the theater or concert hall.

My lessons encompass many facets of music, including theory to better understand, technic to strengthen & coordinate the hands, ear training, timing, composing, musicianship & music history. Classical music is a vital part of every lesson, but all other types of music are important, as well. My students are exposed to a a variety of styles ~~ jazz, blues, popular, hymns, as well as classical.

I welcome adult students as well as children. I have found, in fact, that playing music can cross all generations. For example, just think of a mom & son playing Christmas carols together, or a grandfather & granddaughter mastering a favorite song as a duet.

In addition to the standard lesson plan, students will have an opportunity to explore extra-curricular music of their choosing several times per year, including the Christmas Season~~just for fun! This will enrich their repertoire and broaden their background. Each spring we come together for a terrific musical celebration ! Our annual recital gives students a chance to share what they have learned with each other and their families. It is also a time for students to grow in musical maturity and self-confidence through a positive performance experience.
