Mark D'Ambrosio
Hello, my name is Mark D'Ambrosio. I have lived in Albuquerque for almost 25 years. I was born and raised in Los Angeles, and have been teaching drums for over 30 years. During my youth, I studied privately, as well as participation with orchestra, jazz band, and marching band from grades 9-12. Upon high school graduation, I received The Herb Alpert Music Scholarship. In 1991, I graduated from Musicians Institute in Hollywood, Calif. In 2014, I was honored to write an article with sheet music for Drumhead Magazine. Here in New Mexico, I have played drums for Calvary Chapel, Hoffmantown Church, and various congregations. Currently, I belong to several musical projects, as well as performing many wedding receptions, small jazz gigs, and recording sessions.
Playing and teaching music is an essential part of my life. As a youngster, I experienced learning difficulties in certain subjects. God has used that experience to help me understand the dynamics of teaching and meeting students where they are; both in physical aptitude and comprehension. My mission statement for the last 12 years has been "providing quality instruction of the drums- with a traditional, yet fresh approach." My students are exposed to many facets of percussion, as well as brief history lessons on how modern music has evolved. I teach students how to read and write music notation, the importance of proper technique, and being able to play along with pre-recorded music which ultimately leads to functioning as part of an ensemble. My biggest selling point as your instructor transcends mere music education. I constantly address "performing with the stage mentality." Life is full of nerves and mistakes.
Ages 6-senior citizens. Most of my students are between 9-17yrs. old. The only pre-requisite for my instruction is a decent attention span and willingness to learn. Initially, a drumset is not mandatory to begin lessons. A practice pad, sticks, and a folder are all that is needed for start-up. Once a drumset is purchased, practice pads still come in handy for late hours or concerns with neighbors. I do encourage students to practice at least 5 consecutive days a week in order to build comprehension and muscle memory. The actual length of practice time depends on the level of the student. I am a registered business and located in Abq foothills. I also give lessons via Skype and Google Duo. My rates and lesson policies are very competitive. Please feel free to contact me with any question(s) and please be assured there is no high pressure!
