This class will make use of Dave Ramsey's Foundations in Personal Finance Curriculum for Homeschoolers to introduce middle school level students to such topics as assets, liabilities and net worth, saving and budgeting, credit vs. debit cards, interest, debt, cost of college, affect of education on income, income taxes, basic economics, marketing and consumerism.
Mona Koerner has 20 years experience as a political economist and policy analyst. She holds a PhD in Public Policy/Political Economy from the University of Texas at Austin, MBA from the University of New Mexico and a BA in Political Science with a minor in Economics from the University of New Mexico. Over the course of her career she has worked on a number of different types of public finance topics including Federal highway construction, national laboratory asset management, school district capital financing, affordable housing finance, homeless prevention and amelioration, housing counseling and financial literacy, economic development and job training. She has taught classes in Public Financial Management at the University of Texas at Austin and the University of New Mexico.
