“From the Fridge to a Frame” - a mother’s encouraging words.
Art for the Young or Young at Art. The goal of the class is for the young artist or art-hesitant to learn impactful, yet simple steps to enhance and refine their art pieces.
Materials are included. We will be using professional colour pencils, graphite, soft and oil pastels, watercolour, and possibly acrylic paint. (I learned to spell colour from the cover of my very first paint box.)
All lessons are designed to incorporate basics (shape, space, perspective, texture, colour theory,…) by doing enjoyable projects. They will learn by directive art (demonstrating each step and the why of it) and then experiencing it themselves, and strengthened with easy, illustrated written sheets.
This is not an art history class but art masters may be introduced or quoted.
The word epiphany originally meant to glimpse who God is, in His creation of everyday people and the world around us. Whether the face of a child or the aged, grapes on a vine, flowers on the sill, a lion facing the wind…, truly fine art, glorifies God, even if one uses Crayolas. I would like to rephrase the English idiom to: A picture speaks a thousand words and should bespeak the heart of God.
I have been teaching art to all ages for 28 years, working with home schools, private and public schools, classes in my home studio, and the fun adventure of co-teaching writing and illustration camps. My credentials are: I enjoy art, love children, and delight in seeing their efforts bloom into a lifetime ability.
