Encouraging Parent Led Education
By Isabel McCabe I started taking classes advertised by PLANT, Inc. when I was in the seventh grade. The first class I took was a speech class. I was not too excited for the speech class because public speaking to me was one of the worst things someone could make me do, but as the weeks went by I started to enjoy it! I learned about the steps required to form a good speech and how to actually give the speech. After this speech class I took a finance class and a second speech class called Always be Ready. In the finance class, I learned the right way to handle money, and I also learned how important saving truly is. In this class, I had the opportunity to run for president, treasurer, or secretary; I ran for president, which is something I never would have done without this class. In the second speech class, I learned more about speeches, and I even learned a little bit about debate. I still get very nervous when giving a speech or even having a casual conversation amongst a group of people, but I now know how to form thoughts into well-structured words and to share them with people. Furthermore, because of the finance class I think about it before immediately spending my money, and when I watch the news, I can understand what they are saying when they use large words about money and the economy. These classes enhanced my writing, speaking capabilities, thought process, and my knowledge of money. Being around other students who had a passion to do well in school helped to give me the desire to work even harder at my education. I use the things I learned through PLANT, Inc. advertised classes every day. Most importantly, I learned more about God and what it means to please Him through all one does. It is my hope that these classes will be available in the future to more homeschoolers so that they may benefit as I did. Isabel McCabeMy name is Isabel McCabe I will be turning fourteen, and I have been homeschooled for ten years; I currently attend Rio Grande Enrichment Studies.

Good job Isabel in tackling your anxieties about public speaking and writing about it. Getting past our comfort zones is the best path towards becoming who we are meant to be and you show that. Your message can be an inspiration to other young people who don't always see the value of facing challenges head-on. I hope the same for my children. Thanks for being "out there" and leading the way.
